Micro Wedding

With all this madness going on from COVID-19, everyone’s lives has had some big changes. Have you guys ever heard of a '“micro wedding”? Micro weddings have actually been around for awhile, but some light is being shed on this term now due to the dramatic changes we have had to make. A micro wedding is a much smaller celebration; however, it is much more intimate. Then after the wedding ceremony is finished, it is followed by a “reception”, but it is more relaxed than your regular reception. Many couples have been forced to make some hard decisions on their wedding, possibly cancelling and rescheduling the whole thing. Now this has lead many couples to decide to have a micro wedding.

What is a Micro Wedding?

A micro wedding is referred to as a small wedding, hence the word micro. In the scenario of a micro wedding, there is typically no more than 50 guests. With having fewer guests, this can make the wedding much more intimate for the couple. We all know the talk of the world is COVID-19 and having to deal with social distancing set by the government. A micro wedding would consist of your immediate family and the photographer. The more recent micro weddings have had up to ten people at the most, which included the vendors.

We know this is not exactly “ideal” for some couples, because they have planned to have this huge wedding celebration with everyone that they care about. However, if you choose to do a micro wedding, then there is no stress about cancellation or rescheduling. A micro wedding will still have some of the same traditions that come along with a wedding.

How is a Micro Wedding different from an Elopement?

Micro weddings and Elopements are very similar, but they are different in their own ways. In a traditional Elopement the couple is essentially “running away” together, but primarily, it is focused on the unity of the couple themselves. During many Elopements, many couples get married without telling anyone. There are no rules to an Elopement and it is however the couple wants it. Some couples will decide to just have them two there, as well as the official.

Micro weddings are very similar to a regular wedding. It is described as a hybrid of a larger wedding and an elopement. Micro weddings can be much more enjoyable for the couple, because they are celebrating with a small group of people. Financially, the couple is able to spend less money, or they can spend more money that is invested for their special guests. With a micro wedding, you are able to have more expensive drinks and food, something that is not possible for a large wedding with many guests.

How will Palette of Light photograph a Micro Wedding?

Compared to an Elopement, micro weddings are much more scheduled, as well as structured. There will be a schedule that you will follow, as the day goes on. For a micro wedding, the day is much shorter compared to a traditional wedding. Typically, the wedding takes place closer to sunset. As photographers of Palette of Light, we want to have the perfect timeline for you. Most of the time micro wedding will last any time between 2-4 hours, which can vary as well. Here is an example of a timeline that we would follow:

3:00-5:00— Wedding Details and Getting Ready
5:30— Wedding Ceremony
6:00-6:20— Family Pictures
6:20-7:20— Couple Pictures
7:20— Toast to the Newly Weds
7:40— Coverage Complete/Sunset
